Snail Renaissance
The Brief: A mama snail and a baby snail
The Critique: I'm sorry to say that you're worser than me. You gotta learn to draw as me. You just don't draw so well. Why do you think that is? It turns out that I'm the good draw-er. It turns out that you're the art director.
Artists Note: The critique is on the initial sketch, and compares to hers. She actually likes the painting.
Job Status: Provisionally Approved, pending addition of jumping fish in the lake

Sail Heaven! Amazing!
Sail does not equal snail. I'm fired for poor spelling.
This is my favorite exchange so far. Go, Tiny Draw-er.
Aw I love that picture, it's beautiful.
She's got a point, her snail IS pretty radtastic. I love the cover of the book you published. It looks just like a picture of my older sister when she was younger. My parents say she was quite a stubborn and vocal child, but now she's really quite and respectful. Hey, I guess there's still hope! ;-)
fantastic. love your drawings. makes me wanna have kids.. uhm... no. not yet. :) whatever. again: love this blog!
Of course, the flying fish. :p
I love this blog so much! Thank you for making me smile! :)
It's nothing without the fish. I agree with the tiny one.
well I must say that this is just such a wonderful concept and idea for a blog I am so so so happy that I have been introduced.
keep up the amazing work!!
Pretty!
My daughter is now 12, and sometimes I wonder when the "critiquing" will stop!
Loved your blog!!! What a great idea!!! Especially the "Help support the Tiny Art Director's college fund (She'll be going to RISD in 2023)" Brilliant!
I have to agree that this almost makes me want to have kids. She sounds like a pain ... and joy to have around. Tell her to keep up the good work! :D
New to blog (pointed here via Very Short List), but this is great! My daughter is 3, can totally relate. Great stuff!
sorry to delete the one above - just trying to keep T.A.D.'s real name off the site (losing battle I know). the comment was nice and said:
I love your final, but I must say [T.A.D.]'s sketch is great! She's already showing talent. Just look at the detail in those antennas! Go [T.A.D.]!
thanks for the great comments everyone - I'm very happy with both of our versions too!
I love snails! Found your site thru Lost at E Minor. Kids rule!
I hope one day, I have an awesome kid like this. This is so good!
I love your blog, what a great idea! Am impatiently waiting for my own little one to arrive and can only hope for such fruitful exchange :-)
Found your blog thru A Cup of Jo and I love it. Kids are fun critics, aren't they?
So great! I have a 4-year-old daughter, too. Perhaps I will start documenting her critiques of my daily activities.
Tiny Art Director is so cute. I love her point of views. :)
Charm Central, right here. "You gotta learn to draw as me." I'm going to borrow this for the rest of my life and substitute different verbs in the 'draw' spot, depending on what I'm doing. Honey, you gotta learn to cook as me. Mom, you gotta learn to drive as me.
Tiny Art Director = Genius.
Brilliant blog.
It always amazes me that little human beings can be so opinionated. My 4 year old is also like this. Makes me wonder if we are born as a blank sheet of paper, waiting to be written on, or if we have the 'opinion gene' already up and running as soon as we take our first breath.
Thank you :O)
Excellent blog I just had to tweet about it.
Love the art work and the director ;)
Kid's more like my clients than me. ;) Loads of fun.
The picture is beautiful. My Mother collects snails, and I would love if you posted a computer wallpaper sized version of this. 1280x960 or bigger would be awesome. Keep on arting!
As a copywriter, I work with a lot of Art Directors like this one, albeit bigger.
No! The headline has too many letters!
Gee, you're good! T.A.D. is great too though. I draw
myself a little.
For lack of a more general place to drop my general comments...
Came here via BoingBoing
My daughter is the same age and I can hear her voice in the TAD comments. Awesome!
Love the art too!
Came via BoingBoing and found this masterpiece of a blog. Your paintings are amazing and your daughter is your muse per excellence. You have a winning concept! In one year you and T.A.D. might well be the most famous artists online! I'm an art director and I hope I sound nothing like her. Or at least, that I make it sound nicer. :-)
She's a tough crowd.
A friend sent me this link and I just read every critique in a 4-year-old's voice. Apparently there's a kid living in my head!
Fantastic work...love this one. Approved!
I've been an advertising/marketing copywriter for 25 years and I've never worked with an art director more demanding, precocious, articulate or adorable.
thanks everyone - I really appreciate the comments - more posts to come soon
Ahahaha. Your little girls really knows how to tell you what's up, huh? She seems very intelligent.
I really like the cloud on the right! I know that's a weird thing to like, but I like it a lot.
Got here via Boing Boing and I'm SO glad I did! Went way back in your posts and love every single one of them. Your T.A.D. could be my 4-year-old's doppelganger, too funny. Keep up the great work!
gotta say, dig yours - LOVE hers.
great art + great blog!
This is great. I can't wait for my daughter to get old enough to start drawing and helping daddy with his graphic art like this. There truly are some wonderful things dads can share with their children...and this is one of them. Thank you.
That's so beautiful!
